Abstract:

The Manhattan skyline represents the prosperity and strength of New York. After the 9/11 attacks, many new skyscrapers were built in Manhattan through the reconstruction of the World Trade Center, infill development, and demolitionreconstruction, forming a new skyline. This paper first discusses the general evolution of Manhattan's skyline post-9/11, then expounds New York's urban construction evolution from changes in architectural style, public spaces, urban pattern, and urban functions. It also explores the city’s industrial structure evolution through shifts in the service industry, cultural and creative industry, sci-tech innovation industry, and urban industry, as well as its urban life evolution based on changes in population, transportation, lifestyle, and quality of life. Finally, it analyzes the internal drivers of New York's sustained evolution as a global pioneer city: forward-looking planning, enhanced urban resilience, and expanded regional collaboration.
