Progress of International Research on Community Sustainability Assessment and Its Prospects in China

Abstract:
With the proposal of the concept of “sustainable development”, especially the birth of Sustainability Science in 2001, the discussion of sustainable communities has gradually become the focus of many disciplines and fields. Compared with the booming international research on community sustainability assessment, the domestic academic circles still lack of attention to the research frontier in this field. This paper mainly includes the following three contents. Firstly, this paper reviews the definitions of community sustainability in international studies and analysis the connotations of community sustainability. Secondly, the bibliometric of community sustainability assessment research in SCI/SSCI database will be carried out to show the general situation, main scholars, research focus, research topic evolution and stage division of international community sustainability assessment research. Thirdly, the author prospect the localization construction, development mechanism, classification and evaluation, planning paradigm, governance method library and policy set of related concepts and assessment framework of community sustainability in China. It is expected to provide scientific reference and direction for the theoretical and practical exploration of community sustainable development in China in the new era.
