Abstract:

This paper firstly discusses and analyzes the dilemma of Henri Lefebvre's theory in practice, discusses the specific social situations and spatial problems that produced Lefebvre’s theory of space production, and then discusses the spatial turn of Lefebvre’s critical theory of everyday life around the 1960s, especially his relationship with the theory of “unityurbanism” of Constant, a member of the Situationist International. Lefebvre deepened the spatial turn and theoretical construction of the critique of everyday life in his interactions with members of the Situationist International. This paper further explores a path from theory to space practice, that is, the neglected clue from Lefebvre, Constance Nieuwenhuys to Aldo Van Eyck, which provides important guidance and value for space practice today. This paper combines Lefebvre’s theory of social space with specific practices and characters to discuss its process and problems in a context more related to urban planning and architecture. It finally points out that pursuit of totality and human self-realization is always the fundamental goal of space practice.
