                            Abstract:

The Node-Place Model (NP Model) could be used to evaluate and classify transport
stations, and it is a scientific tool to assist TOD planning and decisions making. Based on
the literature review, this paper identifies the theoretical connotation and application history
of the NP Model, explores its extended models and planning decision support systems, and
summarizes the application paths of the model suitable for China. The findings show that the
NP Model has undergone the development process of “theoretical research-original applicationimproved application” in foreign countries. The application route is gradually improved, and
the extended model is progressively developed, mainly in terms of the fine delineation of the
station area, the improvement of index system, the fine grain of station classification and the
enhancement of visualization performance. In order to promote the application of the model
in China, it is necessary to design the model according to local conditions, expand model
application scenarios, and develop planning decision support systems. This paper could help to
deepen the evaluation and classification methods of rail transit stations in China, and provide
good insights for the development of TOD planning and decision making.
