“Urban Air Path” is a core terminology for defining
the “Urban Ventilation Corridor” in relevant standards in
China. With the development of ventilation requirements and
related theories since the early 20th century, the concepts and
locating methodologies of urban air paths have been proposed
and evolved through long-term practice in Germany. These have
become the theoretical foundation for the construction of urban
ventilation corridors in other countries. By reviewing the historical
development of the concept, clarifying the historical background,
key terminology, concept connotations, and the nature and
basic ideas of the locating work in various stages, the evolution
characteristics of the concepts and methodologies of urban air
paths are explored, the essence of the concept is discussed, and the
definition of the terminology is proposed.
